The End Of The World is comming!
- Additional information on The President's Heart: The End Of The World
Regarding the title of our new album: Of course we're thinking of the imminent termination of The President's Heart, but also the end of the world as we know it, in a quite real sense, as it has already happend in recent years - and will continue to happen for probably a long time ahead, with religion gaining power in east and west with fanatics of every colour preparing Armageddon (sadly and shamefuly even with the aid of our own government here in Denmark), nuclear rearmament running uncontrollable once again, and - as we have recently seen here in Copenhagen - even the left wing applying fascist tactics of destruction.
Let me stress: There is no irony in this. Our intentions is as pure as our pop songs, and don't mistake us - this is our final attempt at pop music. After earlier having dabbled in punk (Good Will Is Everywhere), cosmic jazz (The Supreme Album) and rock (Loving Relationships) we now have attempted to present a final pop album for the world.
And as patron saint connecting pop and death, who could we choose but Nico, who's reading of Lou Reeds "Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams" perfectly sums up this time of dread and destruction we're currently living in: " Violence echoes through the land / In heart of every man / The knife stabs existent wounds / Pulse runs through matted hair" - the only escape being the dream, the forgetting of reality, the pop song. The song appears twice on the album in Vita and Dorothy's straightforward version and Bittens more dramatic setting of the lyrics, as well as in an earlier version by Frank Sinatra (which Reed probably took as starting point for his own lyrics) and a original Norwegian version on the same theme by Ruth.
A few other notes on some of the other songs:
"The Black Fish" is of course about our shameful involvement in the invasion of Iraq. Is it possible to write songs here in Denmark right now, which is not about this?
"Griggs Road" was mostly recorded at the underground parking lot of Århus Kongrescenter, "Sonic Youth", the first part of "Berlin/Metal" outside and inside of Vita's local shopping mall, "End Of The World intro" on location at Nordhavnen, København.
And that's it. Thank you for now. You've been a wonderful audience! Goodnight.
